North by Edmonton

Everybody is rushing to Toronto’s North by Northeast Festivals and Conference this week. Almost 800 bands are performing at all the great venues around the CN Tower. Sure, there will be lots of  musicians from the GTA, but there’s also talented folks from all over the world hitting the stages. Edmonton is no exception. Here’s a preview of the 4 acts headed out east from the North by Northwest.

Hurry! We’re on in 5 minutes!

F&M is playing on Thursday 14 June at the Central. If you’ve never seen them, you should know they have achieved a unique trifecta: They’re the only band in history that use the accordion, cover The Clash, and have had one of their songs in a film about ice hockey.

The Provincial Archive is playing on 15 June at the Painted Lady. Here’s the Facebook event page. Another great band that utilizes the potential of the accordion, the band has recently been locked away like good archivists, working on their new album.

Nuela Charles is playing on 14 June at C’est What. She just played Edmonton’s Open Sky Music Festival, and has a bunch of dates around Canada this week. She plays Regina tonight, 12 June, Calgary tomorrow, and when she gets back from Toronto she’s playing Edmonton on 18 June. You can find Facebook proof of all of this here.

Wool on Wolves have a few shows this week in Toronto. On the 14th they are at the Dakota. The 15th the Garrison, and the 16th they are rockin’ the Casbah. Find all the particulars here in this handy event page, which Zuckerberg hopes will send Facebook stocks soaring. These guys have come out of the haze of winter with some really wonderful songs, and you should see them played as many times as you can.
