Spies have nice gardens too

FINALLY! The Cold War Spy Game is back on between Russia and the United States!

11 people were charged today in the climax of an F.B.I investigation that has been going on for the past 7 years. If you think all the classified material that the Soviets stole from America during the Cold War was crazy, wait until you hear what these cunning spies were up to!

Sabotage American industrial capabilities? Assassinate important politicians?  Find documents marked “Top Secret” and sneak them back to Russia and then celebrate by drinking vodka?

NOPE. According to the New York Times, the “federal prosecutors accused 11 people of being part of a Russian espionage ring, living under false names and deep cover in a patient scheme to penetrate what one coded message called American ‘policymaking circles.'”

That’s right. They came to America to:

-live like Americans
-consume like Americans
-buy a house in the suburbs like Americans
-make American friends that were kind of a big deal.

Really they just had to act like everyone else around them. And according to some credible eye-witness accounts, these sleeper agents did a pretty bang up job:

Jessie Gugigi, 15, said she could not believe the charges, especially against Mrs. Murphy, who was an accomplished gardener.

“They couldn’t have been spies,” Ms. Gugigi said. “Look what she did with the hydrangeas.”

  1. And the plot thickens! Now we have a conspiracy!

Spy Affair Called Attempt to Discredit Obama

Gennady Gudkov, a former KGB counterintelligence official who serves as deputy head of the State Duma’s Security Committee, said the spy allegations threaten to upset the “reset” by tarnishing Russia’s image in the eyes of the American people and could have been masterminded by opponents hoping to discredit Obama.

“Now millions of Americans will think that Russia was only pretending to be a partner of the United States but is in fact still going after U.S. secrets like during the Cold War,” he told The Moscow Times.
