Thankfully & Sincerely: F&M is Here

“Wish you were here.”

If you can think of a better term to invoke nostalgia, you’re a better thinker than I. It’s something people say when they miss someone, it’s the name of a Pink Floyd song, and it’s the title of the new F&M album.

And like it or not, nostalgia is something that a lot of people are going to be feeling over the next little while. With the 10 year anniversary of the attacks of 11 September 2001 only days away, self and societal-reflection over the past decade has already begun – its probably filling up your twitter feed, facebook statuses, and maybe even your thoughts.

As people look back, however, they can also look forward – and that’s exactly what F&M’s Rebecca and Ryan Anderson have done on their new album. Not only do they revisit three of their earlier songs, “Amsterdam,” “Walk to You,” and “I Pray for the Fog,” they create a beautiful rendition of the outlaw tragedy “Streets of Laredo.” The new music starts the album with “Music by the Sea” and “Old Photographs” and finishes it with “Goodnight” and “I Wish You were Here.” The blend connects the listener to a past seen in a new light, and leaves them pondering the future.

The Andersons, aided by Bryan Miot Reichert,  who all together could make soup from a stone, instill a depth of emotions that leaves the listener in a daze, and yet somehow refreshed. They also make blog writers compose extremely cheesy sentences, which is a power not many superheroes even have.

Oh, and speaking of nostalgia, 11 September 2011 also marks the 10 year anniversary of Nickelback’s Silver Side Up album, which of course, contained the single “How you Remind Me.”

Instead of getting out your old records from those ol’ boys from Hanna, Alberta – give F&M’s new album a listen. Coincidentally, it comes out today. Years from now, it won’t be a decision you look back with anything but warmth.
